Merit Badge Counselor Application Procedures

 

New Counselor or returning after not being on the District Merit Badge Counselor List for the past year:


• Your commitment is for ONE year only.
• You do not have to pay dues to be registered.
• You must be registered with the Boy Scouts of America.
• Read the
• Complete Youth Protection training. This is online. It can be done shortly after you receive your membership number as shown on the bottom of your registration card. Send a copy of the certificate to the Advancement Committee Chair as listed below.
• Complete the BSA Adult Volunteer Application completely. Verify that all pages are readable of the multi-page form. Do not separate form – all pages must be turned in.
• Complete all sections of the Merit Badge Counselor Information Sheet. See link below. Be sure to write a couple of sentences minimum about your background and qualifications for each Merit Badge you desire to be a counselor for. Use a separate page if necessary.
• Submit all forms and supporting paperwork to the current District Advancement Committee Chairman. Do not take paperwork to the council office. If the paperwork is taken to the council office, there is no guarantee that it will be processed correctly.
• Current District Advancement Committee Chair is: Arthur Pinkers, 20442 Calhaven Dr., Santa Clarita, CA 91390-1223.

Renewal as a Merit Badge Counselor:


• Obtain the copy of your Annual Renewal Letter.
• Read through and verify contact information. Make corrections as necessary.
• To continue counseling a Merit Badge, mark a “Y” of “Yes” in the continue column in the specified year.
• To discontinue counseling a Merit Badge, mark a “Y” of “Yes” in the Discontinue column in the specified year.
• Submit the renewal letter to the District Committee Chairman.
• If it has been over three years since you have had Youth Protection Training, it is suggested that you retake it to remain current on current Youth Protection policies.
• Current District Advancement Committee Chair is: Arthur Pinkers, 20442 Calhaven Dr., Santa Clarita, CA 91390-1223.

Adding Merit Badges to your existing list:

Merit Badge Counselors are required take the Boy Scout Youth Protection training.  The following link will take you through the training.  Please include a copy of your certificate with your application.
